Aerial Robotics
The Aerial Robotics Team designs, builds and tests custom drones to compete in the Aerial Robotics In STEM Education (ARISE) competition (https://arisedrone.org/). Students learn about aviation flight rules and safety, drone physics, digital electronics and programming, teamwork and collaboration skills. The competition is composed of autonomous and piloted flights, engineering documentation and a design presentation. The team meets after school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Applications are accepted during the first weeks of school each fall. No experience is required.
Business Professionals of America (BPA)
BPA is open to any student who has taken or currently enrolled in a business class. BPA is a business club centered around fostering business skills for future application to the real world and transforming students into future leaders of America. The club is student driven and allows members to focus on different aspects of business such as finance, accounting, marketing and management, and learning new skills through competitive events based around these topics. Members may attend conferences and participate in area, state and national competitions. Meetings will typically be held on Thursdays at 6:45 a.m. in the large forum room.
Chess Team
Looking to join an exciting and popular team activity where you can connect with friends both old and new? Come by and give the NVHS chess team a try. Whether you have experience playing chess or you are just a beginner, chess team is one of the best activities to hang out with old friends, make new friends, and develop your chess game, all while having a fun and awesome time with your peers! The chess team meets on regular school days every Tuesday and Thursday. Do you have a competitive spirit? Interested in developing your chess game to its fullest potential? Anybody is welcome to attend the numerous tournaments we participate in where you can step up your game and showcase your talents as you play against students from other schools. If you're really surging with that NVHS Wildcat competitive spirit and pride, you are welcome to demonstrate your superhero talents for a chance to become a member of our varsity chess team. Our varsity chess team is made up of a competitive eight-player team that plays against eight-player teams from other high schools. Our varsity chess team participates in both an IHSA qualifying sectional competition and an Illinois State Chess Championship in Peoria, IL at the end of the season. Attending the Illinois State Chess Championship is among the most memorable and exciting experiences anybody can have during high school. Further details will be provided at our meetings for those interested in becoming a member of the varsity chess team. Come on by and give the chess team a try for the time of your life!
Competition Computing Team
Computing Team, we do a variety of activities, mostly revolving around programming and computer science topics. In our meetings, we cover many computer science topics, practice solving programming problems, and do fun programming competitions. Most of the activities we do are to practice and prepare for two major contests:
DECA
DECA is an international competitive business club that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. DECA competitors compete in tests, role-plays, and online simulations at the sectional, state, and international level. NVHS DECA meets most Thursday mornings during the year at 6:50 a.m. in C204.
Illinois Design Educators Association (IDEA) Club
The NVHS IDEA (Illinois DESIGN Educator’s Association) Club is a great way to meet NVHS TEE Department staff and students who share the same interests in various areas of Technology and Engineering. While part of this club, students will have the ability to learn and use current equipment and software used throughout industry. In addition, members will get the chance to represent NVHS at the regional and state level. Most importantly, members will get the opportunity to expand their knowledge of Engineering, Design and Drafting to prepare themselves for college, trade schools, or future careers.
Math Team
Math team is an opportunity for advanced/honors math students to challenge themselves and explore areas of mathematics that are an extension of the classroom. Students will be exposed to non-traditional content and problem-solving techniques that go beyond the curriculum of high school mathematics courses. Math Team prepares students for a variety of mathematics competitions, including the American Mathematics Competition (AMC 10 and AMC 12), ICTM Regional and State Series and other national competitions. Students will compete against other students locally and throughout Illinois in solving challenging problems in mathematics. Math team is a place where students who love math all come together. Practices are held weekly throughout the year.
Mock Trial
Mock Trial is a competitive trial simulation where participants play the roles of attorneys and witnesses while competing against other Illinois schools. Students develop critical thinking and public speaking skills, as well as knowledge of legal practices and procedures, with critiques given by practicing attorneys and judges. We practice during 1st and 2nd semesters to prepare the case that will be used throughout the competitive season in February-March. If you are participant in any of the following groups, you cannot be included in mock trial as it conflicts with their competitive seasons: NV Speech, Model UN, YAG, BPA, and/or DECA.
Model United Nations
Participation in the Model United Nations Club is open to all grade levels. Participants research current international events and debate related issues at two conferences held at the University of Chicago and the CIMUN conference downtown. Model UN offers a unique opportunity to study current news topics, develop high-level communication skills, and socialize with high-school students from across the United States. Please join us for an informational meeting in early September to go over the application process.
Robotics Club
Collaboration, coding, hands-on building, and competition is the essence of Robotics Club. This club provides students with an opportunity to learn the basics of electro-mechanical technology using the VEX Educational Robotics Design System. Students meet twice weekly to design and build a robot that may ultimately compete against other robots in regional, state, national, and world competition. Membership into Robotics Club is through an application process in May the previous school year for returning members and August for incoming freshmen.
Rocket Club (ARC)
The Neuqua Valley High School Rocket Club is open to all NVHS students. We have fun learning about rockets and aerospace vehicles, and we design, build, launch and test rockets to meet specific performance requirements for the American Rocketry Challenge.
Rugby
Founded in 2010, Neuqua Wildcats Rugby has earned 5 State Championships and are perennially ranked as one of the top teams in the country. The coaching staff includes former international level players, and while we’re serious about our success on the field, our approach is always about player-centric development. Rugby is for athletes of all shapes and sizes and no experience is necessary. The club fields three sides at Varsity, Junior Varsity and Frosh/Soph levels with each competing for a State Championship. There is no deadline to register! All players also have the opportunity to travel on our annual pre-season Spring Tour - prior tours have been to California, Texas, North Carolina, and Florida. If you’re willing to learn and work hard then Neuqua Wildcats Rugby is for you!
Scholastic Bowl
Scholastic Bowl is an IHSA competitive activity. Each match consists of 5 players competing against other area high schools-both a varsity and junior varsity squad. Questions come from Social Studies, Math, Science, English, Fine Arts and Miscellaneous-which can include pop culture, sports, etc. We have a conference tournament and state tournament.
Science Olympiad
Science Olympiad is a team academic competition. We have openings on both Junior Varsity teams and Varsity team. Students of all academic backgrounds and ages are welcome! We compete in 23 events covering aspects of life, earth and physical sciences. There are building and engineering events, as well. Topics may include: forensics, cell biology, electricity, water rockets and titrations. No player is expected to know all the material before joining. We have practice time to work on events.
Skills USA
SkillsUSA is a national membership association serving high school, college and middle school students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations, and for further education. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel.
Speech Team
Speech Team members participate in competitive public speaking. Students must audition to get on the team, where they will be placed in one of 14 events that cover acting, improvising, writing, and performing.

Special Olympics

Athletes: To be eligible to participate in Special Olympics as an athlete, you must be identified by an agency or professional as having one of the following conditions: intellectual disabilities, cognitive delays as measured by formal assessment, or significant learning or vocational problems due to cognitive delay that require or have required specially designed instruction.
Unified Partners: A Unified partner is a student without an intellectual disability, who actively participates with the athletes in a fun and meaningful way for training and competition.

Ultimate Frisbee
NV Ultimate was founded in 2007 at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, IL by teacher, Arnoush Javaherian and student, Ben Rehmann. The club has grown from a handful of students to a year round program with co-ed players competing at the middle school and high school level. Currently, NV Ultimate operates as an independent club affiliated with Neuqua Valley High School. We welcome all players to the club as we are based on integrity, positivity, humility, diversity and family.
Youth and Government
Interested in debate, law or current events? Want to improve your leadership, communication or advocacy skills? Then check out Youth and Government. YAG is a state-wide program open to all grade levels with a mission to develop tomorrow’s leaders. In this competitive club, students take on the roles of legislators, attorneys, lobbyists, press members and more. Students may also seek state-level leadership positions and win awards of distinction. Youth and Government culminates in a three-day event where students literally take over the state capitol -- debating bills, arguing cases and reporting the news of the day using the real legislative and judicial spaces in Springfield.
